How do I change my car details?

You can change the car details on your policy through your Aviva Motor account. Here’s how:

  1. Log in to MyAviva.
  2. Select your Aviva Motor policy, then choose Details.
  3. Scroll down to the My policies section.
  4. Find the policy you wish to update and choose Change policy.
  5. Select Change car details and usage.
  6. Enter the date you want the change to take place. Please note: on the date you’ve chosen to change cover to your new car we’ll cover you for the full day on your old and your new car*.

You don’t need a cover note from your insurer when changing your car.

* We’ll continue to insure you on your old car until 23:59 on the day you've selected the change to your policy to take place. We’ll cover your old and your new car at the same time on this day to give you peace of mind.

If you’ve bought a brand-new car, and this isn’t recognized automatically by our system, just scroll down the page and you’ll be able to enter the vehicle details manually.

If you’re not able to enter the new details manually, please allow up to five working days for our system to update with the new information from the DVLA. You should then be able to change your car over.

Unfortunately, we can’t cover the following:

  • Vans – we can only insure cars.
  • Vehicles worth £70k or more
  • Cars with significant modifications – we’ll cover optional extras fitted by the manufacturer as new and declared in the car value (for Comprehensive policies only) and modifications made solely in respect of a disability.
