UK Breakdown cover

  • Breakdown cover, also known as roadside cover, isn't included as standard, but is an additional option you can buy to enhance your cover.
  • All our breakdown cover is provided by the RAC.

Unsure if you have breakdown cover? If you have this cover it'll be on your Policy Schedule.

Breakdown cover options

There are six levels of breakdown cover available depending on your budget and needs:

  • We'll come out and try to get you moving at the roadside (except within 1/4 mile of your home).
  • If we can't fix your vehicle, we'll take it up to 10 miles to the nearest garage for you.

Roadside & At Home

  • We'll come out and try to get you moving at the roadside even if your vehicle is at home.

  • We'll give you a courtesy car that you can use for up to one day while your car is being fixed.
  • If a courtesy car isn't appropriate, we'll provide you with overnight accommodation or an alternative form of transport.

Roadside, Recovery, At Home, Onward Travel & European Cover

  • This provides everything included above, plus we'll provide you with breakdown assistance in Europe for trips of up to 90 days.

You can add on breakdown cover by following these steps:

  1. Log in to MyAviva
  2. Select Aviva Motor, and then choose Details.
  3. Scroll down to the My policies section.
  4. Find the policy you wish to update and select Make a change.
  5. Go to Change or add cover.
  6. Select the level of breakdown cover you need and proceed to make your payment.

Adding this on won’t cover you for any breakdowns that have already happened – the cover will take effect 24 hours after you add this to your policy.
