When do I get a courtesy car?

You'll receive your courtesy car only when you've been in an accident and you use our approved repairer network.

You can keep the car for the period of the claim.

You won’t receive a courtesy car as standard if your insured car is stolen or written off.

If your car is stolen or written off, you'll need to have selected optional Hire Car cover to receive a car to keep you mobile while we handle your claim, unless you have Aviva Premium cover which includes Hire Car as standard. Hire car cover is provided for up to 21 days or until settlement is agreed.

Both our courtesy car and hire car cover will usually provide you with a small, three-door hatchback with four seats, subject to availability. Aviva Premium customers will receive a 5-door car for both courtesy car and hire car cover, subject to availability.

If you have Aviva Online cover, you can add Hire Car cover to your policy by following the steps below:

  1. Log in to MyAviva.
  2. Select your Aviva Motor policy.
  3. Scroll down to the My policies section.
  4. Find the policy you wish to update and choose Change policy.
  5. Select Change or add cover.
  6. Select Hire car and continue to make any payments.

Please note that this cover won’t apply to any claims that have already happened.

Aviva Premium customers have Hire car automatically included within their cover, a 5-door car is provided, subject to availability.
